What could possibly go wrong with the perfectly planned holiday? Our families had spent months preparing for our Christmas family reunion, to be held at a lovely mountain cabin in Oregon. The location? Dazzling. The occasion? Perfect. The people? Wonderful. The results? Disastrous. The holiday started rough and quickly grew worse. On the morning of our flight to Oregon, the Blizzard of the Century hit the pacific Northwest, grounding most flights and rerouting others. We managed to get out on the last flight to Portland. We were just exchanging high fives and beginning to anticipate the on-board film when my little sister, Sophia coughed twice and threw up. We looked nervously at Mon and handed over our spare napkins. And then, it happened again: two coughs, and the puke.

 

Have you ever been on a plane with a vomiting baby? Even though I was worried about my poor baby sister and sorry for my puke-splattered mother, I was also mortified by the wrinkled noses of the passengers around us. After the fifth eruption, the flight attendant called for a doctor over the intercom, and even provided the unfortunate passengers in the surrounding seats with garbage bags to protect their clothes from the spray of our milk. Thankfully, after a quick once-over the doctor reported that Sophia most likely just had a standard stomach virus. I was relieved, but honestly? No one wants to start a family vacation smelling like vomit.
